Dental nurse faces dismissal over story about affair with 'randy dentist'

A dental nurse is facing disciplinary action from the General Dental Council (GDC) after she sold her story about having an affair with her boss to a weekly magazine.

Closer magazine published the story about Paula Jackson, 46, under the headline 'My randy dentist offered me £100k to divorce my hubby'.

In the story, Ms Jackson revealed details of a nine year affair with her former boss, dentist Tariq Drabu.

The Daily Mail reports Mr Drabu, 45, ended the affair with Ms Jackson after his wife found out about it. The dental nurse then commenced employment tribunal action against him for constructive dismissal, which he admitted and paid her undisclosed compensation in 2009.

Mr Drabu also received a four-month ban from practising at the Langley Dental Group, in Middleton, Greater Manchester, following the tribunal, after the GDC found him guilty of conduct that was 'unprofessional, inappropriate and not in the best interests of patients'.

Now Mrs Jackson faces being struck off the GDC register for selling her story to Closer for a reported sum of £1,980.

Other allegations levelled against Ms Jackson include a claim that she described a sedated female patient as a 'slag' and discussed sexual matters with her.

The GDC Fitness to Practise Panel will have to decide two points: (1) whether her conduct 'as a whole had the tendency to undermine public confidence in the dental care profession'; and (2) whether her 'fitness to practise as a dental nurse is impaired by reason of misconduct'.

The panel has wide ranging powers and, if the case against her is proved, it can order anything from no action be taken or a reprimand to suspension or removal from the professional register.
